Where high-performing teams get you…
You’ve heard time and again that trust is the basis for any good relationship.
In business, it’s no different. Especially when it comes to building and maintaining a high-performing team.
A high-performing team is instrumental when you want to create an Infinite Business.
The first step to creating a high-performing team is to build TRUST.
Building trust requires open, honest, and transparent communication (that goes both ways).
You must be willing to communicate freely and openly and also allow your team to do the same.
Without it, you’ll run into conflicts, challenges and setbacks.
Just think about it…
Recall an instance when miscommunication (or lack of communication) resulted in feelings of doubt.
When seeds of uncertainty and doubt enter our minds, they plant themselves there.
Trust is automatically challenged.
And depending on the circumstance, trust can be broken.
Trust is as hard to earn back as it is to build (sometimes even harder).
When it comes to lack of information, it’s human nature for us to read into things… We create our own narratives to fill in the blanks when information is missing or doesn’t add up.
If your goal is to build an Infinite Business (and high-performing team), the spotlight is ALWAYS on you.
Your team hears not only what you say, they hear what you don’t say.
They watch what you do, and they watch what you don’t do.
It’s also human nature to identify inconsistencies (chinks in the armor). The interesting part is, not only do we notice them, we actually look for them!
This makes it absolutely crucial to establish and exercise clear, honest, and open communication.
Here’s the good news…
This is something you have complete control over. Changing your communication style can help everyone avoid unnecessary circumstances that can cause doubt.
Now, the second step in creating a high-performing team…
Honoring dreams, independence, and personal autonomy.
Years before I became an Entrepreneur, I took a lot of pride being an “Intrapreneur”.
I was a President and CEO of a company that I successfully took to the 8-figure mark in less than 5 years.
I worked my ass off and always put the initiatives of the company first.
Yet, having that Entrepreneur/Intrapreneur drive, I had other dreams and desires too.
One of those was speaking on stage. I would attend events and training programs in my spare time on how to become an effective speaker.
When one of the board members discovered what I was doing, he immediately confronted me and said, “If you have that much spare time to pursue a passion like speaking, you’re not spending enough time on this company and you should reconsider re-allocating that time here”.
Needless to say, I quickly realized I wasn’t in the right place and I left.
Regardless of what you want to believe, here’s the truth…
People have dreams and goals, and those dreams and goals may not be a part of your business.
If you take anything away from this blog article, please make it this:
EMBRACE and NURTURE these individuals that have big dreams and desires…They are the same people who possess the necessary passion, strength, skill, and drive to take your business to the next level.
But only if they feel taken care of, supported, valued, and heard.
Foster their dreams and desires instead of stomping on them.
When you take this approach, everybody wins.
Trust me… Nobody is going to “fly the coop” if they feel aligned with a team and culture that embraces and supports them in living their life on their terms.
Take a moment and think about your team now…
What type of communication style exists in your culture?
Is it a style that promotes open, honest, and transparent communication?
If not, what changes can you make starting today to turn it around?
